Born Gershwin W. Robinson on September 22, 1974 in Trinidad West Indies, he grew up in Morvant. As a young boy, he attended Morvant R.C. and Morvant Lavantille. In his spare time, he would listen to his favorite DJ, “Dr. Hyde”. He studied Dr. Hyde’s techniques and began to understand the art of Djing at the age of 9 while at one of Dr. Hyde’s parties in Morvant.
He then moved to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 10. Over the next 10 years he played around with the idea of djing and experimented with numerous styles of music and equipment. Finally in 1989, his mother Cheryl Davis and Aunt Patricia Noel made an investment that changed his life and purchased his first set of turn tables and mixer at the age of 15.
In 1991, while attending STEVENS TECHNICAL INSTITUTE, he got the first taste of what it would be like to play for the public. His aunt Patricia and Cousin Joy gave him the nick name BABE’-G. BABE’-G then formed a crew that went by the name of “Matrix Entertainment Hood Top Productions” with 2 of his high school friends and one of his cousin’s. They would DJ for house parties, YMCA parties etc. hosted by some of the people we know today as BUSTA RHYMES (Leaders of the New School) and Ali (AKON), DAS EFX, CHI ALI, and was also introduced to block parties where SHABBA, PINCHERS and SUPER CAT were regular performers in Brooklyn.
After finishing school in 1993, Babe’-G put music on hold and joined the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS. In 2002, he returned to civilian life, and continued exploring his djing talent. He concentrated on YMCA, school, and backyard parties. In 2004, Babe’-G became a member of POISON DART SOUND INC. For the next few years he worked on his technique and dug a little deeper into the music, specializing in House music, Reggae, Soca, and Hip Hop. He began playing for various artists such as SIZZLA, BEANIE MAN, BUJU BANTON, BERES HAMMOND, and more. He also played alongside some of the big names in the business ie. BASS ODYESSY, STONE LOVE, BLACK CHINEY and many more.
Today, Babe’-G resides in Tampa, FL and is still Djing. He was nominated and won BEST SOCA SELECTOR at the SOUTH FLORIDA AWARDS (2010) and BEST DJ (2013). Presently, he is taking advantage of playing in some of the top named venues in and around the U.S. He has his own radio show on www.vibyzradio.com every Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm-8pm. He is also working with upcoming artists such as Braveheart Record Group LLC out of Jamaica. |
